I know some of you have had that experience I had today. Those times when you can't believe how God brings something to you from the Bible at "just the right time." This morning the Bible verse that was chosen for me by the devotional system I'm using was this one:
Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom. Psalm 90:12
I was born 48 years ago today. That means that if I count my days today was number 17520. Two verses earlier than this the Psalmist reminds us that most people live to be about 70 years old. That means most likely I don't have 17520 left. I know I might live to be 96 but not likely.
I'll tell you this, the older I get the more I don't want to play games at this. I want to experience more of what God has to offer. I want to figure out more of what He can do in me and through me and through His community when we move out in faith. In my sane wise moments I know that only the moments in the last 17520 that I have really lived have been the moments when I have moved in faith and given my life away. My birthday prayer is that I can hold on to that wisdom and live more and more moments that way.

Happy birthday Ed! I knew there was some reason why you and Jason always touched me with your messages. Today i found out it's because we share the same birthday. Mine was great and hope yours was too!

You are exactly 25 days older than me. I hereby reserve the right to call you Old Man. Proverbs mentions that gray hair is a crown of splendor. (If you don't find that comforting, there is always Grecian Formula...) Happy Birthday Ed!
As long as you show the proper respect to your elders you may call me "old man" my son.
Now that everyone has made a fuss over his birthday, Ed will undoubtedly get the big head and move to Hollywood to become an action star, ultimately taking over Keifer Sutherland's role on 24 and causing the series to self destruct. Birthday merriment and Germans are a dangerous combination, people!
And now my ultimate birthday wish has been mentioned - Jack Bauer/Ed Martin.... oh yeah
