Porn Sunday at CCC

I'm sitting here watching Monday night TV (the best night of TV) and reading online. Then my ADD kicked in and I started thinking about Sunday and decided to blog.

This Sunday is the conclusion of the series "Let's Talk about Sex." As I told you when we started this series we are going to take on the greatest evil that is attacking God's gift of sexuality - pornography. I am praying that this week every parent (it doesn't matter whether you have boys or girls), every married person, every single person, every grandparent, okay I'm praying everyone at CCC will be here for this service. I have heard from some of you that you don't really think this is that big of an issue - "it's a matter of freedom and choice." I am one of the great believers in freedom. This is not a political issue and if you've been at our church you know I'm not at all interested in making some statement about what our government should do about this problem. I only know the side of seeing the ruined lives. Not just the lives of those who can't control themselves and get addicted. Pornography is an insipid evil. Here are some stats about what's happening currently in our country.
• Number of pornographic web sites: 4.2 Million.
• People who regularly visit Internet porn web sites daily: 40 million.
• Christians who said pornography is a major problem in the home: 47%
• Breakdown of male/female visitors to pornography sites: 65% male - 35% female.
• 30% of unsolicited e-mails contain pornographic materials.
• Women, far more than men, are likely to act out their behaviors in real life, such as having multiple partners, casual sex, or affairs.
• Porn revenue is larger than the combined revenues of all professional football, baseball and basketball franchises.
• US porn revenue exceeds the combined revenues of ABC, CBS, and NBC at $6.2 billion.
The average age a person is exposed to porn: 11 years old.

Pray for this service. Please invite your friends. Even if they don't go to church they are interested in this. Don't believe this is a national issue - it's come up in the presidential debates. People are concerned - not just Christians.

ADD Alert - only 13 days until we kick off Chapter 2. This is one of the most important five week periods in our church's history. What we do or don't do really will have an effect on generations of people who live in this area. Please be ready to 1) Pray 2) Get involved - decide on what group you're attending 3) Give as God directs you.
